There's Something in the Air
Since early Spring, I have felt a restlessness stirring within me. Certainly, a planned month's walk in June through parts of northern Spain would normally raise levels of excitement and anticipation. But even during the hours of solitude on the Camino, I could not contain the whirlwind that swirled in my head. Back home, energized, we dove into our claywork and painting. Unsettling, strange feelings still occupied my mind. Then came pre-election blasts from all sides, seeming like they would never come to an end. We now have Blue Jays fever, and most importantly, the energy of 4 years of a newly elected government, full of potential: regaining the country we love, growing positively as a nation, and re-establishing a position of respect and trust around the world. Is it any wonder that we are feeling elated to ride this wave? We've waited a long time, and we are ready. These past months have been fruitful in many ways. I have found studio space in my village, and will move all my artwork there in November. I will have space to spread out, paint large, and perhaps schedule workshops. We shall see how things evolve. The clay studio will stay at our house, as it doesn't encroach on our living space in the same way as the painting studio does.
It seems I am not the only artist who has been thinking of change. Friends Lisa Morris, Peter Paylor and Michael Rutland are all in the midst of opening new studios and galleries. The wave has come, and we are ready for the ride, from here to there.
