An Alternate Way

Remote Route, 24" X 24", Oil/Cold Wax on cradled wood panel.

Occasionally, we took an alternate way when hiking the Camino.  These routes were used by pilgrims of yore and are less travelled today.  The waymarking can sometimes be obscured and the familiar yellow arrow not always easy to find.  This is the route to take if you want a more contemplative experience, enfolded by the silence of nature. The landscape is beyond beautiful!  As older pilgrims, we only traversed short portions of these routes when we felt we could handle the extraordinary terrain.  Undoubtedly, these brief side excursions were the highlights of our month long hike in northern Spain. Often, taking the "road less travelled" is the route that teaches us more, and has a deeper impact on our lives.
